"More cracker" and "all gone" are two-word phrases that change what happens next, and a phrase that works is a phrase worth saying again. Putting a wanted thing just within asking distance is how the joining of two words gets practised for a reason rather than for an adult.

- a snack in small pieces, or a favourite toy with parts
🛡️ Never withhold food or drink to prompt a word. Offer a small piece and wait a beat for any sound at all — a hungry toddler being made to earn a snack is not a language activity, and the pause ends the instant it stops being playful.
