A toddler may comfort another child who is crying — a real first move outward, and one that is easy to miss or interrupt. Letting the impulse run rather than managing it is most of what encourages it.

🛡️ Never push a toddler toward a distressed child, and never hold them there. Some children get overwhelmed by another's crying rather than moved by it, and that is not a failure of kindness — step back with them if that is what happens.
