A book and a lap
Pathways suggests reading picture books in these months to help baby connect the words they hear to the images they see. That is the whole of it — one book, your lap, and your voice doing the work. Whether you reach the end of the story, or stay on the same page eleven times, makes no difference to what it is for.
🧺 You need
- one board book
🛡️ Any book that goes in the mouth has to be a board book — paper pages tear and the wet pieces are a choking risk, so keep paper ones for when the book stays in your hands. Check for loose flaps, stickers, googly eyes and anything glued on that could come away, and take the book with you when you get up rather than leaving it in the cot.
