A reason to turn to the side

Somewhere across these months, rolling over in both directions may become something your baby can do. This is not an exercise for it. It is a reason to look one way, and later the other way, with you and a small sound as the reason โ€” and whatever the shoulders and hips decide to do after that is entirely theirs.

๐Ÿงบ You need

  • a rattle, crinkly cloth or anything that makes a soft sound

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Whatever you rattle stays in your hand: nothing small enough to disappear into a mouth, and nothing hanging from a ribbon, string or cord. And once turning to the side is happening at all, a full roll can follow it with no warning โ€” a bed, sofa or changing table is never somewhere to lay them down for this, even for a moment.

A reason to turn to the side

Baby on their back, you off to one side

Lay baby on their back on the floor and settle yourself out to one side, roughly level with their shoulder rather than up above their head.
