The hand comes into view
A newborn reflex closes the fingers around whatever touches the palm, and around this age that grip may be getting more deliberate — the hands are no longer balled into fists all the time. Carrying a hand that is holding something into the place their eyes already point lets the holding and the looking meet.
🧺 You need
- a muslin square or thin flannel
🛡️ One thin layer only, laid across the palm and never over the face or the neck, and it goes back in your pocket the moment the go ends — never left with them, awake or asleep. Their arm sets the range: cup the wrist rather than gripping it, and the first hint of a pull against you is where the movement stops. Never lift them by their hold on you — that grip is a reflex they cannot let go of.
