Something big to carry
Carrying a large toy or several toys while walking is its own step past walking itself: with both arms full, a toddler can no longer throw a hand out to catch a wobble, so balance has to come from the middle of the body instead. Something bulky and light is the whole exercise โ the size is what makes it work, not the weight.
๐งบ You need
- one bulky but light item โ a sofa cushion, an empty box, a folded blanket
๐ก๏ธ Bulky is the point; heavy is not. Keep it light enough that a drop lands on a foot without hurting, and clear the route of cords, rugs and stairs โ with both arms full, hands cannot break a fall. Nothing taller than their chest, so they can still see where they are going.
