Setting out the picnic

Setting up toy dishes for a picnic is sorting with a purpose attached: a cup goes with a cup, a spoon goes beside a plate, and the arrangement means something because of what it is for. It is the same category work as two piles, one step further on.

๐Ÿงบ You need

  • a few unbreakable cups, plates and spoons
  • a cloth or towel to lay them on

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Unbreakable dishes only โ€” real crockery and glass are out even under supervision, because a set-out picnic invites carrying things around.

Setting out the picnic

Put a cloth down first

A towel on the floor makes an edge, and an edge turns scattered dishes into a place that is being set.
