Point at it together

Somewhere toward the end of the first year, pointing and gesturing at what they want may become part of how a baby tells you things. Pointing at things yourself, and naming them as you go, puts that move in front of them without ever asking for it — and a window is an afternoon's worth of things to point at.

🛡️ At the window they stay in your arms — never sat or stood on the sill, and never leaning against glass or an insect screen, which is not built to hold a weight. Keep the window itself closed or locked while you are there, and stand clear of looped blind cords. Outdoors, do the pointing from the pavement side, well back from the kerb.
