A corner left showing
Around eight months, a toy hidden under a scarf is the classic version of this game: a scarf lifted, and the toy looked for underneath. This one simply hands you the difficulty dial — a corner left showing, a toy that carries on rattling under the cloth, a hiding place that hides rather less than it could. Whatever gets found, gets found; the looking is the part worth watching.
🧺 You need
- a toy that rattles or crinkles
- a light cloth — a muslin or tea towel
- an unbreakable cup or a small box (optional)
🛡️ The cloth stays over the toy and never over their face, and it goes away with you at the end — no loose fabric left within reach of where they sit or sleep. If you use a cup or a box as the second hiding place, make it unbreakable and bigger than their fist: no glass, no ceramic, and nothing with a lid or a part that comes off. Everything in this game passes the toilet-roll-tube test — if it fits through one, it does not belong on the floor at this age. And if sitting is still new, cushions round them on firm floor, and stay within arm's reach.
