A tour of small household sounds

โฑ๏ธ 5 min๐Ÿ“ฆ things you have๐Ÿ  indoor๐Ÿคฒ on their back๐Ÿ‘ Sensory

Somewhere between about one and three months babies reach their first hearing milestones, and turning the head towards where a sound came from is one of them. Your house is already full of small sounds worth turning for.

๐Ÿงบ You need

  • a wooden spoon
  • a mug
  • a paper bag

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Test every sound at your own ear first and keep it soft โ€” a sound that is fine for you is louder to them. Everything happens off to one side and at arm's length, never close to an ear, and nothing that makes a noise goes into their hands or stays behind when you leave. One startle ends the whole tour, not just that sound.

A tour of small household sounds

Choose two, and test them at your ear

A spoon tapped once on a mug, a paper bag squeezed slowly. Anything that makes you blink is out.
