Stacking blocks only to knock them straight back down, and opening and closing the lid on a box again and again, are exactly the kind of repeated hand play many one-year-olds gravitate to โ€” both let them cause the same small collapse or reveal on command, as many times as they like.

๐Ÿงบ You need

  • 4 or more blocks or stackable cups
  • a few small boxes, cups, or containers with lids (no battery compartments)

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Use blocks and containers too large to fit fully in a mouth, and keep any lid or compartment that opens onto a battery or a loose small part out of the box โ€” a tower is safe to send flying, a container with a swallowable insert isn't.

Towers up, towers down

Stack three or four, no taller

Sit on the floor together and stack blocks or nesting cups into a small tower of three or four โ€” that's already a full tower, no need to chase a taller one.
