A basket within reach
Touch is on Pathways' list for these months too, and the suggestion stays plain: different textured toys to play with. Setting a few of them out within reach, rather than handing them over one at a time, leaves the order, the pace and the ending to their hands instead of yours.
๐งบ You need
- 3โ4 textured things in a shallow basket โ a knitted square, a folded flannel, a silicone trivet, a chunky board book
๐ก๏ธ Assume every single thing in the basket goes in the mouth: nothing that fits through a toilet-roll tube, and nothing with buttons, ribbons, loose threads or stitched-on parts that could come off. Sitting still topples sideways without a sound, so keep cushions behind and beside them and stay within arm's reach โ on the floor, never on a bed, sofa or any raised surface. The fabrics go back in the drawer when you stop; loose cloth left with a baby is not a toy.
