Over and back again

Rolling over in both directions is one of the things these months may bring. There is nothing here to drill and no order it has to arrive in — mostly what it asks of you is room: firm floor, nothing in the way, and you alongside for as long as it stays fun. The rest is a body finding out for itself what it can do.

🧺 You need

none — just a firm floor with clear space on every side

🛡️ Once a roll is possible at all, the first one comes without warning — so a bed, a sofa, a changing table or any raised surface is never somewhere to leave them, not even for the second it takes to turn around. Keep a hand on them up there, or do the change on the floor. At floor level, sweep what they can now reach: cables, cords, small objects, hard-edged toys parked where a roll would end. Stay in the room.

Over and back again

Clear the floor wider than they are long

Pick a firm patch of floor and sweep it clear on every side — wider than baby is long, so a turn that keeps going still lands on floor. In a small room one cleared side is enough — lay them with their back against the wall or the sofa so there is only one direction to travel, and clear that.
