First marks on paper

Scribbling spontaneously is the beginning of every later mark — writing, drawing, a signature — and at this age it comes from the shoulder rather than the fingers. A big sheet and a fat crayon are what let a whole-arm sweep leave something behind.
🧺 You need
- one chunky non-toxic crayon
- a large sheet of paper, and tape to hold it down
🛡️ Chunky non-toxic crayons only, never pens, pencils or anything with a point — a toddler walks with what is in their hand, and a sharp one is a face injury. Stay with them; a crayon is a mouthing hazard the moment you turn round.
