You need
your face (best toy available) or a high-contrast toy
How
With baby alert on their back, hold your face or a toy ~25 cm away until they fix on it. Move it in a slow arc β pause at midline, continue. Keep arcs under their frustration threshold; smooth pursuit is genuinely hard work at first.
Why this matters
Following a moving target past the midline (typical around 2 months: "watches you as you move") integrates both brain hemispheres' visual maps and trains the eye teamwork later needed for depth perception and reading faces.
