You set the ring, they take the balance

⏱️ 5 min📦 things you have🏠 indoor🤲 sitting🤸 Motor

Positioned upright somewhere in this window, a baby may stay sitting without leaning forward on their arms — and later, sitting without support at all. This one is the moment you stop holding on: you set the surround, and the balance is theirs.

🧺 You need

  • cushions or folded blankets to ring the floor
  • a favourite toy

🛡️ A propped sit gives way without warning, and the topple is the hazard here, not the sitting. Ring every side with cushions or folded blankets, keep it on a firm floor and never on a bed, a sofa or any raised surface, and stay within arm's reach for the whole of it — hands close enough to catch, not holding. Stop at the first wobble that does not come back, or the first grumble. And if a topple ends face-down against a cushion or blanket, lift them clear straight away — soft fabric against the face is the one landing not to leave for a second.

You set the ring, they take the balance

A soft ring on the floor

Pick a flat, firm spot on the floor and ring it with cushions or folded blankets, close enough on every side that a lean lands soft. No room to build a nest? Sit them sideways across your lap with your arm as the ring — that is the same activity, and it takes no floor at all.
