Up on tiptoe to reach

Standing on tiptoe is a whole-body balance held at its least stable point, and toddlers almost never do it on request — they do it because something they want is a few centimetres too high. Putting one thing just out of reach is the entire method.

🧺 You need

  • one favourite small item to place just out of reach

🛡️ 🚨 Only ever on a stable surface that cannot tip or be pulled over — never a table with a cloth, a chest of drawers, a bookcase or anything unanchored, because reaching up is how furniture comes down on a toddler. Just above comfortable reach, never so high they need to climb.

Up on tiptoe to reach

Find the height that is only just too high

Hold something they like at their comfortable reach, then raise it a few centimetres. That gap is the whole activity.
