You need
blanket on firm floor; optional baby-safe mirror or contrast card
How
2β3 minutes, 2β3Γ a day, always awake and supervised β after a nap or diaper change, not right after feeding. Get down on the floor face-to-face so baby has a reason to lift the head; prop a mirror or contrast card in view. Newborn variant: tummy-down on your chest while you recline counts fully.
Why this matters
Prone play builds the neck, shoulder and core strength behind every later motor milestone (rolling, sitting, crawling) and prevents flat-head spots from back sleeping. Short and frequent beats long and teary.
