You need
black-and-white cards or bold patterns (DIY: thick marker on paper)
How
Hold a high-contrast pattern 20β30 cm from baby's face β the distance from your arms to your face when feeding. Hold still until baby locks on; then wait. When they look away, swap the pattern. 2β3 patterns per session is plenty.
Why this matters
Newborns see sharply only at ~20β30 cm and their retina responds far more to strong contrast than to color. Focused gazing exercises the visual system in exactly the range it can use.
