Treat cries and fusses as communication, not manipulation: go, speak calmly ("I hear you, I'm here"), check needs in a consistent order, and stay unhurried even when you can't fix it instantly. Consistency of response β not speed or perfection β is what registers.
Why this matters
Responsive caregiving in the early months builds secure attachment β the base layer for emotional regulation and exploration. Per the AAP: you cannot spoil a young infant by responding; co-regulation now becomes self-regulation later.
