โœจ How

Sing or speak in "parentese": higher pitch, stretched vowels, big melodic swings, real words (not baby talk gibberish). Any song works; repetition is a feature. Watch for baby stilling or brightening โ€” that's active listening.

๐Ÿ’› Why this matters

Infants measurably prefer and learn better from parentese; its exaggerated melody makes the sound units of language easier to segment, and coached parentese use is linked to more infant babbling and larger toddler vocabulary.
